Hello,

I had a similar problem with a centrino based laptop.
It was solved by setting the rate detection to AUTO

RH9 -> /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-<int>

RATE=auto

Suse8x -> /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-<int>

WIRELESS_RATE='auto'

Hope this helps
