Once again thank you for your time to help me with this issue.

When I start up Windows I see two other wireless networks in my neighborhood that other people are running. Do you mean that in Linux my card may actually be trying to contact the other network(s)?

Forgive me my igrnorance, but what do you mean by "try to connect to an access point"? I thought that this is what the card is trying to do? I do have an ability to access the router through the wireless card when WEP is disabled.

It is getting confusing...
Thanks for any suggestions.

However, I have not been able to successfully configure WEP option (which works seamlessly under Windows XP). The free trial will be expiring very soon and I would like to purchase a license, but I am reluctant to do so without being able to fully unilize the option of WEP protection. I tried adding
