[hcflinux] framing error on startup

I'm currently running this h&c modem using demand dialling. Things
sometimes seem to hang and not start cleanly, and I sometimes get one or
more occurrences like

0218108.102 >>> EC_ERROR: Frame 29 is our of order  (28) 0218108.102
>>> EC_ERROR: build_rej_p0

and in 'bad' instances I've seen ifconfig record up to 100-odd framing
errors on ppp0

is this (like death!) 'just nature's way of telling me to slow down'

or a residual bug/feature?
