[hcflinux] framing error on startup

I noticed the thread from last week.
I have been having a similar problem.
I am using the conextant HCF winmodem
The modem works just fine with a ppp link to my isp, but the driver keeps
routing messages relating to messed up frames to the console.When there is
a download of any size going on the screen rapidly becomes covered in gunk.
The phone line here is noisy - I get reported connection speeds of 16Kb/s
under windows.

Example - from /var/log/debug :

Apr 18 12:35:53 jupiter kernel: 1222504.288: >>>EC_ERROR: Frame 69 is out
of order. (68)1222504.288: >>>EC_ERROR: build_rej_p0

Marc said to send him the capture from AT#UG so it is at the bottom of this
mail.

I want to get the damn thing off my console - switching to gui cures it
but that's not the point.

How Can I stop the messages from going to the console?

I am using syslog-ng and the killer is I can't see in the .conf file
anywhere that could be telling it to send this crap straight to the console.
There was only one line in syslog-ng.conf concerning logging to console
(for emergencies) and I disabled that earlier on (line 2 of this extract) :
 >syslog-ng.conf extract<

log { source(src); filter(f_messages); destination(messages); };
#log { source(src); filter(f_emergency); destination(console); };
log { source(src); filter(f_cnews); destination(xconsole); };
log { source(src); filter(f_cother); destination(xconsole); };

 >end extract<

Any ideas relating to syslog-ng or to the modem driver?
There is no mention of turning off/on debugging in the modem driver docs.
Debian 2.2r5
kernel 2.2.16
pppd 2.4.? - yeah I updated it
syslog 2.5.16 - update from 2.4.0 earlier on to no avail
hcflinmodem package 0.9beta

Thanks
tom
