[hcflinux] AC97 modem in my Thinkpad and Connex driver

Hi all,

I installed the recent soft modem driver

     hsflinmodem-5.03.03.L2mbsibeta02060200k2.4.18_4-1rh.i686.rpm

which I found on the Conexant modem driver website. I was hoping that the
driver should work and the installation process went without any error. a
check with lsmod also indicated that hsf*.o files were loaded. I use RedHat
7.3 and Kernel 2.4.18-4 on a i686 (Thinkpad T23) which on Windows tells me
that it has a Lucent AMR softmodem. Indeed the modem is a Intel daughter card
and based on the AC97 codec. I include the relevant output form lspci -v -v
below.

However, using neat (the RedHat network configuration tool) it tells me that
it does not find the modem and indeed the hsf*.o modules are not loaded after
a reboot. Inspecting the /var/meassage file I find the entry

Jun 14 15:25:34 weblab kernel: ERROR: did not find a supported AC97 codec !
(0x5349:0x4c27)<3>
Jun 14 15:25:34 weblab kernel: Trying to free free IRQ11
Jun 14 15:25:34 weblab kernel: hsf_request_port: ComCtrlOpen failed, r=1!

Does anyone know whether I can use the Conexan modem driver to get that modem
working or if it might hopeless.

Thanks for any hint!
