[hcflinux] Generic pakages are all you need

Hello,

The generic rpm and srpm (along with the C compiler and Kernel Sources that come with your distro) are all that are needed to get the driver up and running under Mandrake, Red Hat or any rpm based system. for non rpm systems the tarball should be sufficient.

The advantage of using the generic rpm is that the driver modules will be rebuilt to match your kernel and use a compatible C compiler (the one supplied with your distro) to compile them.

Users encountering problems with the precompiled binary rpms (eg Red Hat 8.0 users) should try the generic rpm to see if it solves their problem.

If the compilation process flags up an error because it cannot find the kernel source, even when you have installed the necessary rpms, you will need to make an appropriate symbolic link to fix the problem. this is certainly true of Mandrake 7.1 or earlier.
