This could then be a configuration issue with your TCP/IP settings.
Does the modem actually dial out?  And does it connect?

Check with your ISP and ensure your DNS settings are correct.

Just a little test:  In a console, try this:
	$ ping www.longlandclan.hopto.org

Press CTRL+C after it has run for 10 seconds (it will keep pinging
indefinately until you do).
Then try this command:
	$ ping 202.47.55.78

Again, press CTRL+C after 10 seconds.
If the latter command works but the first one doesn't, then it's a
configuration issue with your DNS server settings.  Post up the output
and we'll go from there.
