[hcflinux] loosing it

Entered cat/proc/pci - got list containing   bus 2  device 13   function 0   
  communication controller: conexant hcf 56k data/fax/voice/sphp modem [rev 
8]      Internet network connect wizard still useless   went back to minicom 
  configured  isp name, phone nmber, username, password - got all entered 
and set up as default    autodial connects me , asks for username and 
password - I enter them and get"password pair incorrect" [?]redid it 
numerous times. Getting very close to giving up and buying zoom 2920 
hardware modem.
