	Well, an internal PCI modem is out of the question, since you're using
a laptop.

	However, many PCMCIA/CardBus modems will work with Linux natively using
the drivers that come with the kernel & pcmcia_cs packages.  There's a
list here: http://pcmcia-cs.sourceforge.net/ftp/SUPPORTED.CARDS

	Alternatively, practically any serial (not USB) modem will work on
Linux out of the box.
