Hi,

AC97 are supported by the HSF driver, not the HCF driver.

Please download the appropriate HSF driver for your kernel and it should
work if you modem does have a Conexant HSF chipset.

Subject: [hcflinux] wvdial: Cannot open /dev/modem: No such device

Can someone help me with the installation of a
HCF modem driver?

I have downloaded and installed
hcfpcimodem-0.99lnxtbeta03042700k2.4.20_4GB-1suse.i586.rpm
with rpm -i ...

(I found the chips Smart MCII11246-12 and Smart DAA20463-11 in my notebook
and
somewhere (I can't find the link anymore) it said the above driver is the
correct one)

Then I have run hcfpciconfig
and given the following anwers:

Should we attempt to automatically configure your hardware? [yes] no
Is the modem presently installed in your system? [yes]

  1) Intel Corp. 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Modem (rev 2).
  2) None of the above

Which PCI device is your HCF modem? (1-2) 1

  1) /etc/hcfpci/inf/hcfv90_lan_linux.inf
  2) /etc/hcfpci/inf/hcfv90_linux.inf
  3) /etc/hcfpci/inf/hcfv92_linux.inf
  4) /etc/hcfpci/inf/hcfv92_riptide_linux.inf
  5) None of the above

Which INF file would you like to use with your HCF modem? (1-5) 3

Here I have also tried the other 3 possibilities.

The link is properly installed:
  wmad84:/home/nils/myinstall/Modem # ls -al /dev/modem
  lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           13 2003-08-07 15:26 /dev/modem ->
/dev/ttySHCF0

When I start wvdial, I get the following error message:
  wmad84:/home/nils/myinstall/Modem # wvdial
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.42
--> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such device
--> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such device
--> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such device

What is my mistake? I have attaced the file
generated by hcfpciconfig --dumpdiag

Thank you very much
Nils Rosehr
