[hsflinux] connecting to earthlink via dialup

Hi all,
Thanks to Marc's last piece of advice (thanks Marc) I got the beta hsf
driver installed (hsflinmodem-4.06.06.02mbsibeta02041300-1_redhat.i586) and
now am trying to get through to my ISP. It dials out and appears on some
level to connect, but I can't get anything to work, not even ping with an IP
address that I know is good:

[root at localhost linuxp]# ping 18.7.21.70
connect: Network is unreachable

So, I thought someone on this list might have some insight on this problem.
Below I've pasted in the /var/log/messages section typical of an attempt to
connect. It shows that some progress towards a connection has happened...
The DNS addresses it picks up are not, according to Earthlink tech support,
correct, though. When I put in their DNS addresses into resolv.conf they
get overwritten by the addresses in the message log below. Puzzling to a
newbie like me. (OK, everythink is puzzling to a newbie like me...)

Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Thanks,

Mark
