[hsflinux] Sony modem problem

I saw the response to Sören Vogel's question (On Sat, Apr 06, 2002 at 10:41:20AM +0200) Re: Sony ICH (HSF) modem problems. As you had indicated the modem was given irq 0, Now after adding the 'pci=biosirq' line to my (grub)menu.lst it gets irq 9...but still has the same problems. kppp fails with "Sorry, can't open modem" nor does wvdial work from the command line. The reply message states that "I have received reports from other people that our driver works with 8086:2486 modems". Do you know if these people used the rmp, Is there any benifit to useing the .tgz and make install? Any help would be greatly appreciated...Does anyone know if the mini-pci modem in these laptops can be replaced with another 'real' modem or are all mini-pci modems soft-modems?

Thanks
Alex
