Hi,

It seems that you are confusing PPP authentication (PAP, CHAP) with
Caller-ID.

Caller-ID allows the modem to display the number of the calling party
when transmitted by the central office.  You shouldn't need the Caller-ID
feature to connect to the Internet.

If your connection attempts are failing due to incorrect user name or password
then the cause is most probably a PPP / dialer configuration error.
