[hsflinux] problems installing hsf drivers

I'm running slackware 8.0. I disables symmetric processor support, and enables ACPI. I also edited modules/common.mak in the driver install dir to read KERNELSRC = /usr/src/linux-2.4.5 because that's where my kernel source is, as opposed to /lib/modules/2.4.5/build. Also on hsfconfig and it asks me for a directory to the modules i choose /usr/src/linux-2.4.5 instead of the default /lib/modules/2.4.5/build When i run hsfconfig, i get a whole lot of unresolved varialbles when it tried to depmod. When i type in modprobe hsfserial, i get: insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.5/misc/hsfosspec.o: No such file or directory
insmod: /libmodules/2.4.5/hsosspec.o failed
insmod failed

my device ids are 2486 8086, thats the intel smartmc i believe, i let the hsfconfig pick it out on its own. When i get the depmode errors on hsfconfig, i see it is using /lib/ directories. It seems these directories are for the installation of the hsf drivers, so i'm not sure if it matter whether they use that or /usr/src. In any case, i really don't know how to change those directories. IF anyone can tell me how , or what my problem is, i would really appreciate it. I'm on a dell inspiron 4100,and on windows it says the modem is called Actiontec MD560 RD v.92. Sorry, if i'm making little sense, im pretty new at linux. Thanks for your help.
