[hsflinux] pppd crashes

Hello;
I've a Sony Vaio PCG-FX63 with a standard WinModem. I succesfully
installed the software "conexant" to use that modem under linux.
I start kppp (as root) and "query modem" succesfully finds the modem.
When I press on connect button everything seems working, but when the pppd
daemon starts after a while it crashes with the following
error message:

the pppd daemon died unexpectedly
exit status: 16

did anybody see this ?
any idea about a pppd's bug or some mis-configuration ?
