[hsflinux] slow echo replies

I've been online for more than 36 hours with no problems, but suddenly
now something's happened.

Whenever I generate even the slightest amount of activity on the line,
my echo reply/request times increase dramatically. For example:

While idling:

Jan 5 15:18:24 hq pppd[12165]: sent [LCP EchoReq id=0xc2 magic=0xeb3c061a]
Jan 5 15:18:24 hq pppd[12165]: rcvd [LCP EchoRep id=0xc2 magic=0x506687f5]

While downloading at a mere 1.8k/s or so:

Jan 5 15:04:53 hq pppd[12165]: sent [LCP EchoReq id=0xa7 magic=0xeb3c061a]
Jan 5 15:05:17 hq pppd[12165]: rcvd [LCP EchoRep id=0xa7 magic=0x506687f5]

Sometimes web pages don't load at all, either the proxy server fails to
resolve because the DNS request times out, or the HTTP request itself
times out. A 6000b html file just took me more than 90 seconds to get,
with nothing else running.

If I manage to get the connection busy enough, no echoes get through and
I get disconnected.

This seems to have been previously encountered here:

Are there any debugging settings I could switch on that would give you
more information?

Thanks
Henning
