Hi,

We could analyze the sound output from your modem and possibly find the
source of the problem this way.

Please follow this procedure to create an audio dump of your connections.

1) Create a directory in "/etc/hsfmodem" called "dcprecord" by running the
following command in a root console.

mkdir /etc/hsfmodem/dcprecord

2) Change your modem initialization string to include the "AT" command "M2".

If you use vwdial (network configuration), edit "/etc/wvdial.conf" to change
"M1" to "M2" in the modem initialization string. "M2" tells the modem to
keep the speaker active all the time during the connection, as opposed to
being active only during the negociation. You can put back "M1" after the
tests.

3) Run a few connection/transfer tests (2 should be enough).

4) Compress and remove "/etc/hsfmodem/dcprecord". It's important not to
leave the "dcprecord" directory, or else the sound files will eventually use
all your hard drive space. You can run these commands in a root console.

cd /etc/hsfmodem
tar -zcv --remove-files -f /tmp/dcprecord.tar.gz dcprecord
rmdir dcprecord

5) Send us the file "/tmp/dcprecord.tar.gz".

Hello
I checked the parameters on kppp dialer and "+Fclass" is not in the init
string. I have since tried various strings and atz seems to work. I tried
kppp terminal and was able to get connected. I heard dialing and handshake.
Received request for userid and password. When I filled those in, received
about 15 lines of scrambled letters. When the transmission stopped I hit
enter. After a few seconds it came back with "no carrier". I also tried
connecting through kppp menu. I hit connect and heard dialing process.
Connection was cut before handshake. Connections though win98 have been ok.
I am using laptop on same line now and get connections ok also (no network).
Thanks for your response and help in this matter.
John
