1: Absolutely! That's my experience too. 2 different compilers, and
you're in trouble.
2: The same source (.gz) as you tried compiles and installs on my RH 7.2
2.4.18 kernel Compaq. The Conexant modem then works. Some day, no doubt,
the sound may work too;
3: The included *.O files are not object files; do 'file' on the files
and you'll get 32-bit ELF as type. Dunno what they're for, though.
Setting a good example to the compiler?
4: You'll find your error code, if you grep for it, in
modules/serial_hsf.c. It doesn't have anything to do with the .O ELF
Doesn't help you, but at least you know your supposition is incorrect.
