[hsflinux] AC 97 modem hangs on sending more that ~100-200 KB

I'd advise you to (but only as as a temporary workaround) to try one of
the hsflinmodem-5.03.03.L3mbsibeta02062500 drivers - src.rpm or .tar.gz
from http://www.mbsi.ca/cnxtlindrv/hsf/archive/?M=D andand compile and
install this particular one.
Be aware that this driver is faulty, should not be run on any machine
that has extended up times, and that this is the reason why new drivers
are constantly being developed.
It might, however, alleviate your immediate problem :-)
