I have tried to install Conexant HSF softmodem driver version
6.03.00lnxt03122800full in a Fedora Core 1 system under the
precompiled 2.6.0-1.1.103 kernel that is distributed in
people.redhat.com/~arjanv/, but it fails when running

When running /usr/sbin/hsfconfig as root, the
/tmp/hsfconfig-buildlog.txt file obtained is:
rm -f *.o GPL/*.o *.ko GPL/*.ko *.mod.c GPL/*.mod.c .*.cmd GPL/.*.cmd
(cd /lib/modules/2.6.0-1.1.103/build && make
"SUBDIRS+=/usr/lib/hsfmodem/modules" modules)
make[1]: Entering directory `/lib/modules/2.6.0-1.1.103/build'
Makefile:405: /lib/modules/2.6.0-1.1.103/build/arch/linux/Makefile: No
such file or directory
Makefile:551: target `/usr/lib/hsfmodem/modules' given more than once in
the same rule.
make[1]: *** No rule to make target
`/lib/modules/2.6.0-1.1.103/build/arch/linux/Makefile'. Stop.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/lib/modules/2.6.0-1.1.103/build'
make: *** [all] Error 2

If I change the $ARCH environmental variable to i386, then the
building is done but nothing else happens (I suppose the script clogs
at some point):
[root at localhost hsfmodem-6.03.00lnxt03122800full]# /usr/sbin/hsfconfig
Conexant HSF softmodem driver, version 6.03.00lnxt03122800full

No pre-built modules for: Fedora-1 linux-2.6.0-1.1.103 i686
Trying to automatically build the driver modules...
(this requires a C compiler and proper kernel sources to be installed)
Where is the linux source build directory that matches your running
Building modules for kernel 2.6.0-1.1.103, using source directory

The driver works well using the precompiled
except for occasional unwanted disconnections.

This is the internal modem of an Acer Aspire 1310LC.

Any guess of what might be happening?
