[hsflinux] Linux 2.6.6 trouble: OsDiagInit: cannot register chrdev (-16)

Anyone have this error when trying to load the HSF module?

OsDiagInit: cannot register chrdev (-16)

followed by many unknown symbol messages, probably because the first module 
could not be loaded.

I am using Linux kernel 2.6.6 with SWSUSP2 and Win4Lin patches and the 
hsfmodem-6.03.00lnxt04051300full.tar.gz source package. It compiles and 
installs fine. I've used the HSF driver with a 2.6.2 kernel with SWSUSP2 and 
Win4Lin patches without problems. My ALSA drivers won't load for possibly the 
same reason, giving an error -16.
