Hi,

as reported by a few users, there is a problem with some versions of the
'module-init-tools' package and the HSF modem driver. The symptom is
that the 'modprobe /dev/ttySHSF' command will never return and will
spawn an infinite numbers of 'insmod' processes that will eventually
bring down the system.

This command can also be called by the 'hsfconfig' script, for example,
just after the modules are compiled with the 'hsfconfig' command just
after the 'make install' command. A similar command will be called when
a program will try to access '/dev/modem' or '/dev/ttySHSF0'.

The solution is to upgrade your 'module-init-tools' package to the
version 3.0 (not a pre-release version) as we can see the following
entry in the change log of the 3.0 version :

---
o modprobe: handle infinite recursion caused by already-inserted, where
dependency has install command but is already installed (thanks
to Trond Myklebust)
---
