[hsflinux] HSF as a fax answers the phone but doesn't beep

I tried faxing but it picked up the phone line and did nothing else.

The modem refused to keep the country setting of UK so I decided to 
reinstall everything.

I have got as far as re-installing the hsf driver.

I note that udev says on boot "usr/sin/hsfdcpd can't open dev/hsfdcp0 at 
usr/sbin/hsfdcpd line 64.


I don't know whether to woory about this or not.

Is this all to do with working with a soundcard? - I have no soundcard 
installed and rely on the modem's speaker.

Or could it be a more fundamental and worrying issue?
