Sound's simular to the issue I addressed in my last post.

Try adding 'Rate="22" ' to your  /etc/driverloader/config/$MAC_ADDRESSS

This chipset doesn't seem to 'shift down' to 802.11b automatically, and
you can't set the rate with iwconfig.   Additionally, check your 
channel setting on the AP.  You can set the card to match with a 'Channel='
entry in the same config file.
