Actually problem was in minicom - wrong device.  Although, I am still 
puzzled the strange io settings for the modem.   Are the values returned 
by setserial bogus?  I understand you can't set paramters because it's a 
virtual interface, but I thought it would give you some info at least.   
The hcpciconfig only gives device model information.  I see in 
/proc/tty/driver/hcfpciserial  -  uart:virtual  port:0000000001  irq:0 
 tx:816408 rx: 812628 RTS|CTS|DTR|DSR   irq 0 alright  How can it be irq 
0?  Isn't that the keyboard interrupt?
