hsflinmodem-5.03.03.L3mbsibeta02061700-1.src.rpm installs and works out
of the box (using it now!) on:

Compaq Presario 700AE with 100% ACPI hardware support:

00:09.0 Communication controller: CONEXANT: Unknown device 2f00 (rev 01)
Subsystem: Compaq Computer Corporation: Unknown device 8d89
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 4
	Memory at e8000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K]
	I/O ports at 1858 [size=8]
Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 2

kernel.org 2.4.18, ACPI patch acpi-20020517-2.4.18.diff
kacpid interrupt patch.

lsmod (I've removed non-HSF relevant modules) gives:

Module Size Used by Tainted: P
hsfbasic2 94460 2 (autoclean)
hsfserial 17760 1 (autoclean)
hsfengine 892844 0 (autoclean) [hsfserial]
hsfosspec 21104 0 (autoclean) [hsfbasic2 hsfengine]

for the relative modules.

doing cats on /proc/acpi/processor/CPU0/power during a download was
interesting; my machine - or the ACPI - supports power modes C1 and C2,
doesn't support C3 - and it was on C1 which is lowest power for most of
the download (nothing else was happening at the time). Since I'd never
looked before, I've got nothing to compare it with.

I was previously using hsflinmodem-5.03.03.L2mbsibeta02060200.tar.gz

Remarks:

1: I still can't hear the thing dialling, though that's the least of my
worries in this troubled life. This has nothing to do with my other
sound settings, which have always worked perfectly for CD,
RealPlayer/Winamp etc. I could always hear the PCMCIA Xircom dialling
when I had it;

2: I have to go into Win ME for tele-banking now and again; the same
modem is far more stable and much faster under Linux than ME, the latter
which is a pain in the *ss, every time I have to start it up. Same ISP,
same number to dial, different PPP, same gateway, different DNS server
etc. etc.

I'll use the new driver for a few days and see what happens :-)

Best,

Tony
