This package contains Linux drivers for the Conexant HCF (controllerless) modem family.

The drivers should work on most current Linux distributions, with the 2.4 or 2.6 kernels. Some systems may require kernel recompilation with special ACPI patches.

It will not work on x86_64 (amd64) unless you use a 32-bit Linux distribution.

Apple Power Macintosh (PPC) systems require at least kernel 2.4.20.

The following PCI modem devices are recognized by the hcfpcimodem driver:

  • PCI ID {127A,14F1}:{1002,1003,1004,1005,1006} (71DP v90)
  • PCI ID {127A,14F1}:{1022,1023,1024,1026}
  • PCI ID {127A,14F1}:{1025,1085,2005} (if it doesn't work, try HSF driver)
  • PCI ID {127A,14F1}:{2004,2006}
  • PCI ID {127A,14F1}:{1032,1033,1034,1035,1036}
  • PCI ID {127A,14F1}:{4321} (RIPTIDE)
  • PCI ID 14F1:{10B3,10B4,10B5,10B6}
  • PCI ID 127A:{1802,1804,1805} (LAN/Modem Combo)

  • PCI ID 148D:1003 (DIGICOM Systems)
  • PCI ID 158B:0015 (Allied Data Technologies Tornado VFM56x-PRC)
  • PCI ID 141A:1035 (Apache Micro)
  • The following USB modem devices are recognized by the hcfusbmodem driver:

  • USB Vendor ID: 0572 Product ID: 1290 (Cadmus2 HCF, Conexant)
  • USB Vendor ID: 05AC Product ID: 8202 (Cadmus2 HCF, Apple)
  • Many vendors (such as Dell, Compaq/HP, IBM, U.S. Robotics/3Com, etc..) have shipped modems based on Conexant modem chipsets. If you have a modem based on the HCF chipset but with non-standard vendor or device IDs, please contact If supported, your device could be added to the list and automatically recognized in future versions of this driver.

    See the INSTALL file for installation instructions.

    The modem AT command set is described in the file 100498D_RM_HxF_Released.pdf.

    Bug reports are welcome. (see section "REPORTING PROBLEMS" in INSTALL file)

    User comment:

    Hi! I am a Linux Beginner and installed the SuSE-Linux 8.2 version on my system a couple of days ago. At first my HCFPCI-modem (bought the computer system from Gateway 3 years ago...) did not work - of course there were no drivers installed as Linux could not identify the modem during installation. I did not expect at all that it would be possible to get the modem working, especially as SuSE does not support so called "winmodems". Anyway thanks to the devicemanager in win98 I knew that Conexant was the manufacturer. To make a long story short: I found your website , downloaded "hcfpcimodem-0.99lnxtbeta03042700k2.4.20_4GB-1suse.i586.rpm" and installed it successfully !!!! Juhu ! The modem works brilliantly and I am really happy that you also support the Linux operating system. so once again: thank you very much and have a nice day greetings from Germany
